The Urban Unit 2006 – 2021

The Urban Unit was established in 2005 as a Project Management Unit (PMU) of the Planning and Development Department under Government of the Punjab. In 2012, the PMU was transformed into an independent private sector company, registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and is fully owned by Government of the Punjab.

What Do We Do

The mandate of The Urban Unit is to give policy advice and services to public and private sector organization in the areas that include inter alia Housing and Urban Planning, Spatial Planning, Urban Transport, Solid Waste Management, Water & Sanitation, Urban Economic & Municipal Finance, Institutional Development, Capacity Building and Service Delivery Improvement using its highly reliable GIS based analytics. Besides all technical areas, we lend considerable consultation and support in communication, branding, marketing and stakeholder engagement where and when required.

Strategy

The Urban Unit is working to facilitate the government in formulating policies and execute strategies using evidence-based data-driven Decision Support System – assisting them in achieving their development/service delivery targets by adaptation as a proactive approach through Big Data Analysis, Information Visualization, Predictive Modelling and Artificial Intelligence techniques.

It is using the confluence of Big Data, Connectivity and Artificial Intelligence to support government departments in adopting latest paradigms such as Industry 4.0, Integrated Smart Agriculture revolution, and digitizing knowledge-oriented service economy.

Project Officer – Architectural Engineer

• Assist in preparation and review of architectural drawings (2D & 3D).
• Use of Autodesk’s AutoCAD software 3D and 2D software.
• Ability to use Revit, Sketch Up, Lumion and other software for infrastructure, remodeling & beautification works etc.
• Develop working drawings, façade designs, and presentation layouts.
• Support development of BIM models using Revit.
• Prepare concept drawings and visualizations using Lumion/SketchUp.
• Review consultant and contractor drawings for compliance with approved designs.
• Conduct site visits for verification of architectural works.
• Assist in preparation of site observation reports.
• Support in preparation of as-built drawings and verify the executed works with approved drawings.
• Maintain drawing registers and design documentation.
• Assist in preparation of technical reports, presentations, and summaries.
• Support preparation of BOQ-related architectural inputs.
• Ensure proper record keeping of designs revisions and approvals.
• Coordinate with civil, electrical, and MEP staff for integrated design.
• Assist senior officers in meetings with consultants and contractors.
• Ensure architectural designs comply with building codes, safety standards, and project specifications.

• Monitor project progress against approved timelines, budgets, and scope.
• Assist in reviewing contractors’ work plans, resource deployment, and progress reports.
• Assist in preparation of cost estimates, BOQs.
• Proactive role at office and participate in site visits to monitor physical and financial progress.
• Assist in preparation of site inspection reports and progress review summaries.
• Support coordination between design, procurement, finance, and field teams.
• Support preparation of PC-I / concept notes / feasibility-related documentation (where required).
• Maintain project documentation including correspondence, approvals, and change records.
• Participate in PC-1 review, bid opening meetings, evaluation committees, and progress review meetings.
• Ensure projects are executed in accordance with approved scope, specifications, and quality standards.
• Support preparation of presentations and reports for senior management.
• Assist senior officers in stakeholder coordination meetings.
• Ensure alignment of project implementation with organizational objectives and timelines.
• Perform any other activities as per the guidance and instructed by the Infrastructure Specialist / Sector Head.
